About our sauna flooring
Build it in the right order
Frame and insulate, add a foil vapor barrier with the shiny side in, tape the seams, then install tongue and groove paneling, benches, door and vents.
Pick your wood
Cedar smells great and resists moisture. Aspen and alder are light, smooth and splinter-free. Thermo-aspen is darker and very stable.
Plan airflow
Put a fresh-air intake low near the heater and an exhaust high on the opposite side so the room stays fresh.

Common questions
What wood is best for a sauna?
Western red cedar, aspen, alder and thermo-treated woods are all great. They stay cooler to the touch and handle heat and moisture.
Do I need a vapor barrier?
Yes for most indoor and custom saunas. A foil barrier behind the paneling keeps moisture out of the walls and reflects heat back in.
