The Germany flag was officially adopted in 1949. This black red yellow flag goes from top to bottom. There are three horizontal stripes, all equal in size.

Some believe that the colors represent unity, freedom, and democracy. The most popular theory about the colors is that the black and gold combination came from the colors of the semi-official coat of arms of the Holy Roman Empire.
