When?

On Flag Day – June 14, 1956, the 181st anniversary of the US Army, the newly adopted United States Army Flag was publicly revealed at Independence Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by the Honorable Wilbur M. Brucker, Secretary of the Army.

The flag shows the official seal of the Department of the Army in blue. A scarlet red scroll says ‘United States Army’ in white, and centered below that in blue is ‘1775’, representing the year that the Army was founded.

2 Different Versions

Cedar Sense chose to depict the Army flag with a different version from the official Army flag – a black background with a star and the words ‘U.S. Army’ shown, with yellow and white lettering.

It’s How Old??

The Second Continental Congress founded the Army in 1775, making it the oldest service of the United States. It was originally formed to protect the freedom of the first 13 colonies, and it has now grown into the world’s premier fighting force.

The Mission

The United States Army exists to serve the American people, defend the nation, protect vital national interests, and fulfill national military responsibilities. Their mission is enduring: “to provide necessary forces and capabilities to the combatant commanders in support of the national security and defense strategies.”

What else does the Army do?

The Army recruits, organizes, trains, and equips soldiers who conduct sustained combat and stability operations on land. They are also in charge with providing logistics and support to other services to accomplish their missions, as well as supporting civil authorities in times of emergencies.

The United States Army assists with multinational exercises that show off our country’s leadership. They are also currently helping with ongoing peacekeeping operations, securing the United States’ borders, and assisting with the operations to stop the flow of illegal drugs.
